Employees at The Standard Make Local Wishes Come True - 10 and CountingPortland, Ore. –– Only half-way through their fundraising campaign for wishes, employees at The Standard have raised more than $62,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon – enough to adopt 10 wishes already. The employees are raising money by purchasing permission to wear jeans on Fridays and will continue with the fundraising campaign through December.
Companies that raise $5,000 for the Oregon chapter are able to Adopt-A-Wish®. Thus far, The Standard has adopted 10 wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions with the money raised. Some of those wishes are:
“Granting the wishes of these very brave children would not be possible without donations from corporate employee giving programs like The Standard’s jeans campaign,” says Andrew Asato, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon. “We are grateful for the employees’ generous contributions, which have made a big impact on local children’s wishes.”
As with most companies in the financial industry, The Standard encourages professional attire for its staff. With this fundraising campaign for wishes, employees that want to wear jeans on Fridays make a donation of a certain level to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition to the $62,000 raised in Oregon, they have raised more than $10,000 for other Make-A-Wish® chapters in employees’ hometowns. The fundraiser began in January and will continue through December.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Born in 1980 when a group of caring individuals helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 69 chapters in the U.S. and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants more than 12,600 wishes a year and has granted more than 148,000 wishes in the U.S. since inception.
The local chapter serves children, ages 2 ½ through 17, living throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington. For more information about the organization, please visit www.orwish.org or call the chapter office at 800-934-WISH to discover how you can share the power of a wish®.
