Griffin’s Wish Story

Griffin, 8, Vancouver
Wish:
to go to Disneyland Resort

Eight-year-old Griffin, of Vancouver, knew he would receive his wish to Disneyland at some point.  However, this cystic fibrosis patient wasn’t expecting the surprise that awaited him at the Waffles & Wishes event on March 5, which celebrated the Oregon chapter’s 25th anniversary of granting local wishes.

When Griffin was invited on stage at the breakfast event to share briefly about “waiting” for a wish, he (and the crowd) was surprised by an entrance from a special guest courtesy of Disney…Mickey Mouse, who delivered the news that Griffin was leaving immediately for his trip!  After big smiles and big hugs from Griffin, Mickey escorted the child and his family to the awaiting limo outside the Oregon Convention Center.  Then, they were whisked off to the airport to fly down to California.

At the Alaska Airlines terminal, Griffin was treated like a V.I.P.  Some employees even recognized him from the event and shared in his excitement for the trip.  Griffin toured the cockpit, flew first class, and received a special on-board announcement.

Once in Disneyland, Griffin spent three whole days touring the park and experiencing as many rides as he could.  His favorite rides were California Screamin’ and Splash Mountain.  He also met many characters, including Mickey and Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland.

One day at Goofy’s Kitchen, Aladdin orchestrated a scheme to get himself a piece of peanut butter and jelly pizza by enlisting Griffin’s assistance.  After conducting the “crime,” Aladdin and Griffin were “scolded” by the manager who called “security.”  But, Genie came along and saved the day, by diverting the security guard’s attention to avoid the “arrest.”  With high-fives all around, Griffin, Genie and Aladdin were let off scot-free!

Griffin’s parents, Sharon and Michael, say they are very grateful to Disney, Alaska Airlines and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon for creating such a special occasion for their family.  They talk about Griffin’s “constant smile on his face” throughout the entire trip, which caused them “a few teary-eyed moments” while witnessing this wonderful wish-come-true.
