Jacob’s Wish Story Jacob, 10, La Pine Jacob, who is diagnosed with end stage renal disease, asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon to grant a wish to meet his favorite monster truck, Grave Digger. The 10-year-old from La Pine, Ore., recently returned from the wish trip with his family, where they visited the Grave Digger Monster Truck at its home in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. Jacob’s wish excursion began Dec. 18 with a limo ride to the Redmond airport and a flight to the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his brother and parents. On his wish day, Jacob went to Digger’s Dungeon where he received a behind-the-scenes tour of the Grave Digger shop. Not only did he meet his favorite monster truck in person, but also met the Grave Digger’s driver as well. Dennis Anderson, the creator and operator of the truck, personally guided Jacob and his family through Digger’s Dungeon. Jacob also got to explore the many lighthouses of the Outer Banks, as well as the Wright Brothers Memorial during this visit. This young monster truck fan was all smiles throughout his wish-come-true. Jacob’s wish was generously adopted by the International Union, UAW, and the General Motors Corporation (UAW-GM). To celebrate reaching the 10,000th wish granted by UAW-GM nationwide, the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources sponsored a wish in each of the 66 Make-A-Wish® chapters this winter and chose Jacob’s wish in Oregon to honor the national wish milestone. ![]() |
