Mikey’s Wish Story Mikey, 3, Eagle Creek When the Make-A-Wish volunteers first met 3-year-old Mikey, he was a little shy at first; but he quickly opened up after unwrapping his present—a brand new dump truck. Mikey, who suffers from leukemia, loves trucks and trains. After hanging out with him, it didn’t take long for the volunteers to determine Mikey’s true wish was to have a play structure in his backyard that included a tube slide, swings, and telescope. They chose a date in April for the big wish party at the family’s Eagle Creek home, in hopes of good weather for the volunteers building the structure. Also, Mikey’s 4th birthday was in April, so it would be a joint wish/birthday celebration! On the day of the event, Mikey’s family hosted dozens of relatives, friends and volunteers that helped celebrate the wish-come-true. The structure had arrived the day before, and Mikey’s parents had all the parts ready to go and tools lined up! Volunteers started building early, breaking for lunch for the big barbeque party, and finishing up around 4 p.m. Mikey helped out by using his new tools and wheelbarrow to make sure all the bolts and nuts were tightened and the cedar chips were spread in the right place. Many people from the community donated their time, services and products to complete this very special wish for this very special 4-year-old. “Thank you so much for everything you did. Mikey really had a great day, and he was up early this morning out there again,” wrote his mom to the volunteer wish granters. “We are so thankful to have met you and had this opportunity for Mikey. He is so happy, and we are glad to see him so excited after all that he has been through.” Mikey’s wish was adopted by Resource Staffing Services ![]() |
