Past Events: Star Wars Stormtroopers Invade Pioneer Square

The Imperial March music introduced Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and Princess Leia as they exited the Make-A-Wish wrapped MAX train through billowing smoke.  The group from Cloud City Garrison, a chapter of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers, surprised 6-year-old wish kid Owen at Pioneer Courthouse Square on June 3 during the kickoff of the national Make-A-Wish Destination Joy® campaign, presented by LAY’S®. 

The kickoff event included sponsor presentations from LAY’S and Bank of America, as well as a proclamation from the Governor’s office that June 3 was Make-A-Wish Day in Oregon.  The celebration was also Owen’s send off party for his wish trip. 

In addition to the big surprise of Star Wars characters, the party included a Star Wars cake, a presentation of real Stormtrooper armor and light saber from the Cloud City Garrison, large Darth Vader balloons and decor, and lots of friends and family to share in the fun.  Owen leaves for his wish to go to Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World® Resort on Wednesday the 18th with his mom, dad and little sister.
