Emilene’s Wish Story

Emilene, 16, Newberg
Wish:
to have a Quinceañera

Sixteen-year-old Emilene, of Newberg, had been envisioning her Quinceañera for many years, but cancer put her dreams on hold.  The traditional coming-of-age celebration in the Hispanic culture, a Quinceañera celebrates the 15th birthday of a girl becoming a young lady.

Battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) during preparations for her Quinceañera, Emilene and her family spent their time in the hospital with rounds of chemotherapy instead of sending out invitations.  As her 15th birthday turned into her 16th, Emilene asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make her Quinceañera dreams come true.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon was able to make Emilene’s wish come true this July.  Make-A-Wish® volunteers, along with members of the local community, came together to grant Emilene’s wish.  A grand entrance in a stretch H2 limo, live music, and a traditional tres leches cake all added the special touch to the event held at the Embassy Suites at Washington Square.

During an evening surrounded by many family and friends, Emilene and her guests were able to dance the night away for many hours, celebrating not only her Quinceañera, but the granting of her cherished wish-come-true.
