Nolan’s Wish Story

Wish:
to have a 60’s themed party and replica costume

Nolan is a 16-year-old from Vancouver, Wash., who loves the 60’s era.  A huge fan of the Beatles, Nolan wished to have a replica costume worn by John Lennon from the cover of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s album.  He qualified to receive a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon, which also serves Clark County, Wash., because he has a congenital heart defect.

To celebrate receiving the neon green replica Beatles costume, the Make-A-Wish Foundation hosted a 60’s-themed party where Nolan invited guests to dress up for his wish celebration. The event was held in the Red Star Club Room, connecting Hotel Monaco with Red Star Tavern.

Nolan made a grand entrance in a chauffeured 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.  About 50 family and friends greeted the VIP at the curb for a celebrity/paparazzi effect, and then celebrated in the party room, decorated in era-appropriate lava lamps, tie-dye, bright colors and peace signs.  They also enjoyed a live Beatles cover band, appetizers and dessert from Red Star Tavern.  Nolan spent several hours mingling with his closest pals and supporters, dancing to 60’s music and showing off his intricate costume – all with a huge smile on his face throughout the evening.

“Guess I’m gonna be a star,” said Nolan to one of the local television stations at his party.  “I feel very blessed.  This is the best night of my life.”

Many entities helped discount this wish for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, including Hotel Monaco, Red Star Tavern, Blackbird (the band), Kathy Scroggins at Oregon Ballet (costume), Parke Avenue Limousine, Peter Corvallis, Cold Stone Creamery on Hawthorne and photographer Mike McNulty, and videographer Daniel Hedrick.
