Steven's Wish to Meet WWE Star Rey Mysterio

Wish kid Steven and his entire family love to watch WWE, so it was no surprise when this 12-year-old Coos Bay boy wished to meet his hero, Rey Mysterio.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oregon, with the help of Ken Ware Chevrolet, sent Steven, his parents and five sisters to Wichita, Kansas, this month for the special meet-and-greet.

During his wish trip, the wrestling fanatic and his family rode in a limo to attend a WWE event at Kansas Coliseum.  With backstage passes, Steven spent 20 minutes with Rey Mysterio – who gave the 12-year-old a big hug upon meeting him. Steven took pictures with Rey and received special autographed gifts such as T-shirts, armbands, and program to commemorate the exciting wish experience.  He was even presented with his own signed Rey Mysterio mask in Mexican flag colors to wear at the event!

Steven also met many other professional wrestlers at the WWE event and discovered that some of them stayed at their hotel.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this trip of a lifetime,” wrote Steven’s mother Casey in a thank you note.  “The smile you placed on my son’s face will be forever in my memory.  Nothing can tell you the gratitude I feel.”

2006 Food, Wine & Wishes is a Huge Success!

The Foundation is proud to announce that the 2006 Food, Wine & Wishes gala auction raised more than $310,000 on Saturday night for local children’s wishes.  We could not have accomplished this without our generous sponsors, guests and volunteers.

Eight local wish recipients came to the event to help with the live auction.  One highlight of the evening was when Katie’s ESPN Mariners wish was played for the crowd and followed by a moving speech from her mom Terri.  Another special moment was when wish child Ellie was given the cockapoo puppy that was auctioned off for $11,000!
